Dear friends, Ladies and Gentlemen, distinguished Mr. Thierry Meyrat, Mme. Su Juxiang and Mr. Liu Mingxiang, good afternoon,

 

With conclusion of the 2^nd International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition, I’d like to give our warmest congratulations to the host of the Event for its great success. ICRC, Red Cross Society of China, National Committee on IHL and law School of Remin Uni. have jointly achieved the success. This Law moot will not only increases students’ knowledge of International Humanitarian Law but also advance their interests in learning international law. More importantly, the moot makes publicity of Humanitarian spirit and humanity is to be rooted in our hearts and minds.   

We believe humanity is needed not only in times of war, when there are natural disasters, but also in our daily life. Whenever someone is in need of help, whenever someone is vulnerable to injury or damages, we are ready to give them our hands.  

China’s success in reform and opening up in the past 30 years has greatly improved people’s living standards. But still a lot of people are in need of our help and assistance in various forms. Red Cross Society has done a lot of work in this regard. But the enormous tasks ahead of us cannot be finished by Red Cross Society alone, government authorities, social organizations and people from all walks of life need to make their contributions. And this is why our law firm decides to sponsor this meaningful event, just a try to show our support for humanity in our life.

Early this year, when South China suffered the snow disaster we never met before, we made donations and called for the legal community to take actions; Later when earthquake took place in my hometown Sichuan Province, every lawyer and staff of our firm made donations through the lawyers association. Besides, some of us even donated some money to the Red Cross society online. Looking back upon my years of work in the firm, my conclusion is that Humanity is in line and consistent with our practice of law. As a lawyer, our destiny is to provide quality legal service to people who need professional services. We help them resolve problems they cannot solve by themselves. More than that, we offer legal aid to those people in a weak or less advantage position. In the future, we will put more efforts in this regard and field.
